5 minutes with fashion illustrator Blair Breitenstein

Blair Breitenstein has added her illustrative flair to fashion's finest labels and titles, including Oscar de la Renta, Prada, Harper's Bazaar - and now, Fenwick! You can find Blair's latest designs adorning the front of our very first Fenwick Beauty Bag available from the 7th of May.

To celebrate Beauty Week, we're offering beauty-lovers everywhere the chance to try products from a range of best-selling brands, all hand-picked by our brilliant beauty buyers and housed inside our exclusive makeup bag.

We caught up with Blair to find out about the inspiration behind her striking designs, how she got into illustration and (of course) her makeup must-haves...

Tell us about the illustration on the bag and what inspired you.

I wanted to make sure my design for Fenwick would speak to a wide variety of customers, so I chose a classic black and white palette. The combination of black, white and red is timeless and universally chic. Since I kept the colour palette tame, I could get a little wild with the style of girls in the drawing.

How did you get into illustration?

My grandpa was an artist and I always watched him paint as a child. I was enthralled by the process. My infatuation with drawing and painting only grew stronger as I got older.

How long does it generally take for you to produce a picture?

I can create a solid looking drawing in ten minutes. Commissioned pieces take hours or days because I have to factor in client opinions.

Describe your illustrative style...

Quirky and vibrant.

What are your favourite beauty products right now?

I love the Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow! My favourite foundation right now is the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, which looks great with a pop of the Bobbi Brown Blush in Nectar. I'm also a fan of the Benefit Tinted Lash Primer and am never without a good pair of eyelash curlers.
