Are you a bit of an eye shadow, liner or brow newbie? Not to worry - as part of our Meet The Experts campaign, we’ve asked three leading makeup artists to share their insights on how to make the most out of your main feature…
Enhance your natural eye colour
Lancôme’s Elite Makeup Artist, Fortunato Benavoli, explains that using particular eye shadow shades will enhance your natural eye colour. He says: “Purple is the best colour to compliment green eyes. Create a fresh smoky eye with aubergines or deep purples, lining inside the waterline with black kohl, or smudge a waterproof kohl in aubergine into the lash line for an effortless chic look.” He recommends using the Hypnôse Doll Eyes Palette (£38).
Fortunato says the most flattering colour for blue eyes is anything with orange in it, as it is most complimentary. “Go for bronzes, peach or champagne colours with a hint of peach, such as the Hypnôse Star Eyes Palette (£38)," he suggests. "Apply with a light wash of colour or use with a damp brush for more intensity across the top and bottom eyelids to emphasis the colour contrast.”
For brown eyes, pretty much anything goes. “Brighten them up for Spring by wearing a turquoise eyeliner alongside a smoky eye by blending the liner across the lower eyelid, Fortunato says, adding that the new Hypnôse Star Eyes Palette (£38) will help you achieve the ultimate smokey eye. Alternatively, use a liquid liner for a clean flick, teamed with lots of Hypnose mascara.

UK Makeup Ambassador for Estée Lauder, Lynsey Alexander, is a fan of layering products to create dimension. “Create a long lasting 3-dimensional finish by layering shadow on top of liner," she tells us. "Begin by smudging the SuperNoir Shadow & Liner (£17) out with a brush along the top lash line and a little on the lower lashes to create depth. Next, pat your chosen shade of Pure Color Envy Sculpting EyeShadow (£40) over the liner - my favourites are the rich sumptuous blues for a deep midnight black effect."
To take it to the next level, Lynsey suggests sweeping a layer of new Double Wear Infinite Liner (£18) in Deep Plum on the inner water line of the eyes to define and enrich the colour of your eyes. Layer on lashings of the new Sumptuous Knockout Mascara (£24) to complete the look.

UP YOUR BROW GAME
Benefit are renowned for their strong brow game - as their Head Makeup Artist and Brow Expert, Lisa Potter Dixon explains: “Defining your brows will give you an instant eye lift. As Jean and Jane, the founders of Benefit say, you wouldn't put a pretty picture in an ugly frame!”
Lisa loves the Brow Zings Brow Shaping Kit (£24.50) that comes with all the tools you need for clean, perfected brows. She says: “Dip the angled brush in your soft, pigmented wax and with smooth, angled strokes shape and define brows. Use the blending brush to apply your setting powder - this powder fills in sparse areas and locks brows in place." Got a stray hair? Pluck with the discreet tweezers!
One of our personal favourites is Gimme Brow (£18.50), which comes in two shades and provides thick, lush brows that still look natural. Lisa explains: “Brows magically appear with Gimme Brow with its innovative brush and fibre gel. It adheres to skin and hair, building brows where before there were none.”
