With a new season comes new beauty trends, and autumn/winter time is by far our favourite. Bringing in mattifying coverage, smoky eyes and darker lips, we’ve complied a list of the products you need in your makeup kit for this time of year…

THE MOISTURISER: Clinique Smart SPF15 Custom-Repair Moisturizer

Last year saw the exciting release of Clinique’s Smart Custom Serum. Thankfully, the brains behind the brand picked up on its success to expand the collection, bringing us their new Smart Custom-Repair Moisturizer. This daytime moisturiser has been created with two main factors in mind. The first protects the skin against harmful UV rays – an important step in skin care which is often forgotten about on darker days. Next, the cream penetrates the skin to target a multitude of issues, from lines and wrinkles to loss of elasticity. Its oil-free texture cleverly comes in three different formulas; very dry to dry, dry combination and combination oily to oily.

THE FOUNDATION: MAC Studio Waterweight Foundation

Rummage through any makeup lover’s beauty arsenal and you’re bound to discover a MAC foundation, which is why when the brand announced their latest coverage offering, MAC Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation, a surge of excitement rippled across the beauty world. Developed with an innovative gel-serum formula, this weightless texture sits comfortably on the skin and provides a veil of hydration to help tackle the drying effects of bitter winds and stifling central heating. With sheer to medium coverage, its ultra-fluid formula allows you to build your coverage – which is made even easier thanks to its pipette-style packaging, leaving you in control of how much you dispense. Apply a few drops to the back of your hand and stipple into the skin with a brush for instantly perfect skin.

MAC Studio Waterweight Foundation, £25.50, available at Fenwick Bond Street, Brent Cross, Canterbury, Colchester, Kingston, Newcastle, Tunbridge Wells and York.

THE BRONZER: YSL Les Sahariennes Sun-Kissed Blur Perfector

Impending cold and dark winter days needn’t mean shunning a healthy sunkissed glow. YSL’s latest release, Les Sahariennes Sun-Kissed Blur Perfector, brings a modern update to the art of bronzing. Developed with a balm-powder texture unlike anything we’ve seen before, this chic compact imparts the perfect radiant glow, thanks to a formula of pigments and pearls. Simply apply the balm along the hairline and jawline and feel it seamlessly transform into a powder on the skin. Buff it out and watch as you’re left wit a subtle yet flawless sunkissed glow that effectively adds dimension to the face. Available in seven shades, there’s one to suit all skin tones for your perfect bronzed finish.

THE CONTOUR - By Terry Terrybly Densiliss Contouring Compact

While attending to the faces of celebrities and models on set, By Terry founder Terry de Gunzbury developed her clever contouring compact. Adding a professional touch to at-home contouring, this handy compact makes the art of contouring and highlighting simple for everybody. Each of the four shades comes with two colours. Take the darker shade to sculpt and deepen areas where shadows cast over on the face, such as the hollow of your cheeks, jawline and sides of the nose. Counter-balance this with the lighter shade on areas where the light naturally hits, like the cheekbones, centre of the nose, chin and Cupid’s bow. The result will leave you with enhanced facial definition that isn’t too harsh. What’s more, these powders have been infused with smoothing pigments to banish away blemishes, wrinkles and lines, leaving you with a flawless complexion.

THE CONCEALER: Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage

A cult product within the world of concealers, Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage supplies the perfect tools for effective coverage. Compiled with two concealer pans; the larger one a yellow-toned concealer and the smaller side filled with a pink-toned concealer, you’re able to custom make the perfect shade to match your skin’s undertones by mixing the two together. As its texture is slightly harder and more opaque than most concealers, its application requires simply dabbing the concealer on problem areas and only blending out the sides. For undereyes, apply lightly and follow up with powder to prevent it from caking.

Developed with organic marsh samphire extract and mango oil, its moisturising formula leaves your lips softer and smoother, making them the perfect nourishing protection from drying winter winds. Its buttery texture glides on the lips and the special tip of the bullet perfectly fits around the lip’s contours, making it a cinch to apply on even the darkest winter days. Simply apply it for high-shine colour, which also happens to be infused with Clarin’s signature red berry scent. It has winter days written all over it…

THE BLUSHERS: NARS Blush in Dolce Vita and Seduction

The masters of blush, NARS, have a catalogue of gorgeous and iconic shades for everybody. This season, we’re opting for Dolce Vita, a dark berry pink-red, and Seduction, a deep wine red. Dolce Vita is the perfect option for everyday wear - providing a barely-there rosy finish, this blush adds a delicate flush to the cheeks that can be built up into a slightly intense berry shade. For days that call for a bit more drama, we’ll be reaching for Seduction. An intensely pigmented shade, it supplies gorgeous colour with a subtle shimmer finish. Both shades, like all other NARS blushers, are incredibly pigmented but also finely-milled, making them easy to blend and therefore the perfect foolproof option.

NARS Blush, £23 each, available at Fenwick Bond Street, Brent Cross and Kingston.

THE HIGHLIGHTER: Benefit Watt’s Up

Dewy complexions look just as gorgeous in the winter time. Adding a somewhat frosty effect to the skin, this Benefit cream-to-powder highlighter has a gorgeous champagne hue that suits all skin tones. Simply swipe the stick across areas where you want to add luminosity - we recommend the cheekbones, the highest point of your brow bone and very lightly on your temples. Once its applied to the skin, its shimmery pigments may appear too much, but it easily blends out with its handy sponge applicator to deliver a beautiful glowing sheen that provides that sought-after lit-from-within finish.

THE MASCARA: Lancôme Grandiose Mascara

An innovation in mascaras, Lancôme’s Grandiose Mascara delivers something never seen before; a carefully angled ‘swan neck’ wand to allow you to get right into the roots of your lashes. Begin at the outer corner of the eyes and place the wand at the roots of the lashes. Work the brush through your lashes with zigzag motions to the tips, edging towards the inner corner of the eye each time. You’ll be left with perfectly fanned out lashes that will made your eyes appear bigger and more awake. What’s more, its clever wand shape means no more smudging on the nose, no matter whether you’re left or right-handed.
