1. A Leather Jacket

It’s not until you’ve bought a great leather jacket that you realise just how indispensable it is in your wardrobe. They work best with jeans and a t-shirt for casual weekends and add an edgy coolness to evening outfits. Mix things up by choosing a fun colour that's sure to put a spring in your step, like this fab blush pink offering from Theory, or All Saints have a number of options in duck-egg blue and grey.

2. Denim

The perfect pair of jeans is a wardrobe essential; they’re probably the most worn bottoms in your wardrobe. We love the relaxed fit and summery light-wash denim of these AG Jeans (above). We're also big fans of the dungaree trend, which is a stylish and comfy alternative to dresses this season.

3. T-Shirts

Arguably an obvious entry, but investing in some good quality linen or cotton t-shirts in a variety of neutral shades, along with a few Bretton stripe options are an easy, chic option you can always fall back on.

4. Slogan Sweater

Slogan sweatshirts are all the rage right now, and thanks to their versatile throw-on appeal they’re something you’ll be wearing for years to come – they look just as good with jeans and trainers at the weekend as they do dressed up with a leather skirt or smart pair of trousers. Bella Freud’s iconic jumpers are a fashion favourite, and we’re also into the ‘90s slogan jumpers that are making a comeback thanks to brands like Clavin Klein.

5. Weekend Bag

A cross-body handbag is a stylish, yet practical way to go about your weekend activities hands-free. Go for a classic design in a black, brown or tan leather so it’ll slot in nicely with the rest of your wardrobe.

6. Trainers

We are rejoicing over the trainer trend that seems to be everywhere right now. The ‘fashion trainer’ isn’t necessarily meant for exercise, but the comfortable yet semi-smart appeal of the suede designs, or in this case metallic details mean they look just as great with dresses, skirts and even trousers as they do your favourite jeans.

7. White Shirt

A crisp white shirt will see you through many wardrobe scenarios – from smart interviews and evenings out with friends to more casual looks that look effortlessly chic when paired with a pair of distressed jeans and flats.
