A. A. Milne’s much loved books have amused, enthralled and touched the hearts of many generations, with the endearing Winnie the Pooh’s adventures becoming immediate bestsellers.
A. A. Milne, author of the Winnie the Pooh adventures published the first ever book containing the now-iconic character on October 14th 1926. The original idea for the books came from Milne’s son Christopher (the character Christopher Robin in the books) who had a toy teddy bear he named Winne the Pooh. The rest of the characters, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Owl, Rabbit and Tigger were also inspired by toys given to Christopher as gifts when he was growing up.
A New Adventure
Author Brian Sibley has marked the anniversary by unveiling a brand new character that will be featured in a new Winnie the Pooh Adventure, The Best Bear In All The World, to be published this month. The new character is a Penguin that was inspired by a photograph of A. A. Milne and his son who was playing with the teddy bear that inspired the Winnie the Pooh character, and a toy penguin.
