Mini-me fashion: The Brent Cross childrenswear edit

Everything looks cuter when mini-sized, and the season's biggest trends are no exception.

We paid a visit to one of our favourite places, the newly revamped childrenswear department at Fenwick Brent Cross, to pick out the five key autumn and winter looks for the little ones. As it turns out, they're not so different than what Mum and Dad are sporting - other than the sweet treats, of course...

1. The wild child: Animal prints

Top and Skirt by Molo, £19 and £39; Venetia Studded Shoes by Step2wo, from £145

Whether you’re dressing a little leopard or a tiny tiger, they can let loose in skirts, tops, jumpers and trousers popping with animal prints this season. These patterns are far from the tacky prints of the past and come in the season’s rich colour palette of gold, burgundy and brown.

Jumper by Benetton, £14.90; Skirt and Trousers by Molo, £39 & 45

2. The American classic: Red, white and blue

Jumper & Denim by Tommy Hilfiger, £54 & £58; Boots by Pallin Croc, £49.50

Get the kids prep-school ready with the red, white and blue stripes and denim pieces from the likes of Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren. With denim dresses and embellished collars popping into women’s fashion over the past few months, we’ve even got our eyes on this little Esprit number…

3. The glam girl: Faux fur

Coat and Dress by Billieblush, £80 & £60; Ballet Pump by Step2wo, from £66

Possibly the most luxe trend of the season, faux fur is the perfect way to bundle up the babes as the weather gets chillier. Pair a faux fur coat with a dainty dress or add a bit of fluff to an outfit with the season’s cutest shoes or furry vests.

Mayoral, £29; Step2wo, from £96; Supertrash, £105

4. The festive frock: Holiday party wear

Dress by Rene Derhy, £55; Mary Jane Shoes by Step2wo, from £96

Picking the perfect party outfit can be a challenge no matter what age you’re shopping for, but with sequinned dresses, bedazzled heels, embellished collars, tulle skirts and Vivienne Westwood-inspired prints for girls hitting the racks, you’ll be RSVPing yes to every holiday event that comes your child’s way.

5. Pretty in pink: Feminine pastels

While autumn and winter may be setting in with summer well in rear-view, one tiny tot trend is keeping things light and bright this season. Pinks and pastels, bows and beading are the backdrop for fun skirts, peplum tops and dresses and peasant blouses that are sure to keep your girl perky, even once December's presents have been unwrapped..
