The £30m redevelopment at the Williams & Griffin department store in Colchester High Street will reach a major milestone in early October as all the merchandise on the ground, first and second floors is relocated to the new building.
The move – over the weekend of 2-4 October – will free up the existing store for redevelopment whilst all the departments, apart from the basement offer, trade from the new building. It will be business as usual in the store that weekend, as products covering 42,000 sq ft of floor space will be relocated over three consecutive nights by a team of expert removal contractors.
Williams & Griffin Managing Director Carl Milton says: “This is a major logistical challenge, but the move has been carefully planned to ensure minimal disruption to customers. For the first time, they will see the new finishes, floorings and lighting of the new store. Things will be tight for a while, and not all ranges will be in inal location, but we think customers will be impressed by the new interiors, escalators and lifts. There will be improved display areas for Hugo Boss and Hobbs, and our stunning new Carluccio’s restaurant will open.”
The furniture department will be relocated temporarily to the ground and first floors of the former Job Centre in Colchester High Street.
