Fenwick Newcastle's Christmas Window 2017 Unveiled: Love From Paddington

Have you been to see Fenwick Newcastle’s Christmas Window? This year’s theme is _Love from Paddington_ and features classic scenes from the best-selling Paddington Bear books by Michael Bond. At 38 metres and with eight magical scenes spanning the entire storefront, this annual display at our flagship Newcastle store marks the official beginning of Christmas festivities in the North East, and is one of the largest Christmas showcases in Europe. Inspired by the late Michael Bond’s beloved bear, the windows depict classic scenes from the best-selling Paddington Bear books that have sold over thirty-five million copies worldwide. From his first meeting with the Browns at Paddington Station, to tea in Mr Gruber’s antiques shop and all manner of scrapes in between, Paddington’s adventures are portrayed in a series of charming vignettes. In the final scene, Paddington welcomes in Christmas by helping Jonathan and Judy to decorate their tree in time for the festive season.

The transition from initial sketches to the finished product is the combined effort of a team of artists, animators, technicians and musicians who spent 365 days planning and building the elaborate designs in a German workshop that made the 1,500km journey from Berlin to Newcastle in preparation for the big reveal. It took five skilled window dressers and carpenters to work behind-the-scenes to install the final intricate designs and mechanisms you see today. A Fenwick spokesperson said, “It’s a huge pleasure to feature such an iconic children’s character in our 2017 animated windows.
