Fulsome, natural eyebrows are a beauty mainstay, and their importance cannot be overstated. It’s reasons such as these that explain the ever-growing popularity of brow kits, tints, pencils and microblading, a service which is now available from Blink Brow Bar at Fenwick of Bond Street. And, as we're on the quest for better brows, we volunteered to try out the new treatment and share our microblading experience.
What do Cara Delevigne, Brooke Shields, and Zachary Quinto all have in common? Aside from winning the genetic lottery when it comes to looks and talent, they’re all known for one particular feature – their amazing eyebrows. Fulsome, natural eyebrows are a beauty mainstay, and their importance cannot be overstated. Well-shaped and defined brows help to add proportion and balance to your features, accentuate your eyes, and they play an important role in your non-verbal communication. It’s reasons such as these that explain the ever-growing popularity of brow kits, tints, pencils and microblading, a service which is now available [Blink Brow Bar](https://www.fenwick.co.uk/services/service/?cid=f50d045e-b44f-48bd-b07d-f1a53e1f8252) at [Fenwick of Bond Street](https://www.fenwick.co.uk/stores/bond-street). And, as someone always on the quest for better brows, I volunteered to try out the new treatment and share my microblading experience. #### What is Microblading? Microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo technique which gives the illusion of thicker and fuller eyebrows. Using a handheld blade, rather than a tattoo machine, pigment is embedded into the skin in hair-like strokes along the shape of the brow, giving you natural-looking eyebrows. #### The Process **The Consultation (approximately 40 minutes):** The first stage of microblading is to meet with your Blink Brow Bar artist to discuss your concerns about your brows (for me it was achieve fullness and remove patchiness), what you’d like your brows to look like (for example, the thickness and colour), the process and aftercare treatment. You’ll then get your eyebrows threaded into shape and tinted. Tinting the brows helps to disguise the pigment when your brows are microbladed, as it darkens over the first week.
**The Treatment (approximately 1.5 hours):** In a private treatment room, the brow artist will take some measurements and use them to draw an outline shape of your new brows, taking into account your face shape, features and symmetry. It’ll look a little bit bigger than what the brows will actually be, but gives the artist a guideline to follow and allows you to see the shape. Then, the brow artist takes a small pen-like blade, dips it in pigment and begins drawing hair-like strokes. When the brow is done, more pigment is applied and left to sink in. When the pigment is wiped off again, you can see your new brows and discuss whether you want more blading done or any areas you’d like going over. The treatment was completed in about an hour and a half, and the whole time, Kanta, my brow artist, let me know what she was doing and checked that I was feeling fine. I was so happy with my brows when I saw them in the mirror. I have sensitive skin, so my forehead was a bit red after the treatment, but the brows themselves were exactly what I wanted – fuller, thicker, no patchiness and natural-looking. #### Aftercare In the week after having your brows microbladed, it’s recommended that you don’t get the area wet (via washing or sweating) and not to apply any creams or make-up, otherwise this can affect the longevity of the pigment. The pigment will darken for the first few days, making your brows look much more prominent, but it fades down roughly 30-50% within time, giving you a more authentic result. There might be a little scabbing (I’ve had a very tiny bit) but when the skin heals, you’ll have those perfect brows you’ve always dreamed of. As with any tattoo, suncare is essential. If you expose the pigment to too much sunshine, it can affect the colour, so make sure you’re protecting your face from the sun’s harmful rays (which is already a cardinal rule of skincare) to keep your brows in top condition. After four to six weeks, you need to go for a top up treatment, where your brows are re-bladed, which ensures that the pigment in embedded deeply into the skin and lasts longer. For people with oily skin, the effect will last for up to 12 months, while those with normal or dry skin can expect it to last for up to 18 months.
