With its Spring/Summer 2018 collection, Kate Spade New York also celebrates its 25th Anniversary, and is doing so with what Chief Creative Director Deborah Lloyd calls "a tour of America". Inspired by New Orleans, also known as The Big Easy, the luxury label's latest offering is easy to love and easy to wear. Here, we choose our favourite pieces that you can find at Fenwick.
Called Southern Charm, Kate Spade New York’s anniversary collection is inspired by New Orleans, the city where everything is a celebration. This comes through in playful floral prints, sparkling embroidery and metallic detailing that references the city’s ornate French Quarter. We love the cascading tapestry of flowers falling across the Laurel trench coat, as well as the Silver Metallic Pleated Skirt which is the perfect day-to-night outfit essential.
New Orleans’ sobriquet The Big Easy influenced the silhouettes and styling of the collection. “There’s an ease to what we’ve done this season – it’s less buttoned up than we normally do,” says Lloyd. This relaxed and wearable aesthetic is encapsulated in pieces such as the Blossom Fit and Flare Dress and the Blossom Fluid Shirt Dress – simple and beautiful garments that can be dressed up or dressed down for any occasion.
And, of course, there are an abundance of covetable and quirky handbags. Look out in particular for the 3D Wicker Alligator bag, which is a fun reference to Louisiana’s swamps, as well as the Cameron Street Maise which comes in an earthy green Olive tone. In honour of its anniversary, Kate Spade New York is bringing back its iconic Sam bag. Making its debut in 1993, the boxy tote bag is “where everything began” according to Lloyd, who is relaunching the style in new colours, such as soft pink and navy with different materials including nylon and wicker.
