Dr Colbert and Sienna Miller
We asked Dr. Colbert, the man behind flawless celebrity red carpet complexions for his top tips and how you can replicate his famed Triad Facial at home.
Naomi Watts, Sienna Miller and some of our favourite Victoria Secret Angels have one man to thank for their flawless complexions: dermatologist Dr. David Colbert. We talked to the man himself to find out how he gets the stars ready for the red carpet (blemishes and all) and to get tips on how to replicate his famed Triad Facial at home. ###### Tell us about Colbert MD - what makes The Triad treatment so popular? Our philosophy is that skincare products should be effective and easy to use. Our signature treatment, the Triad Facial, has many loyal devotees due to its ability to keep skin fresh and radiant. We have since developed three core products for the Colbert MD line to replicate the Triad Facial at home: using the Tone Control Discs daily, followed by Stimulate Serum and then layering on two drops of Illumino Face Oil to instantly give a fresh luminous glow. ###### What's the process for getting a celebrity client ready for the red carpet? For a red carpet event, I recommend a series of weekly Triad Facials one month out, plus one or two days before the big event. If you're a planner, then I'd say add a Dual Fraxel treatment one month out to shrink pores, give an overall tightening to the skin and really boost collagen production. ###### And on the day of the event? I'd use a few Colbert MD Tone Control Facial Discs (on the face, décolletage, arms and hands) followed by an application of our silk peptide-filled Stimulate Serum. Then I'd suggest sealing in all of that nutrition with Illumino Face and Body Oil, which contains passion fruit oil and high concentrations of antioxidants. This at-home regimen mimics the Triad Facial and enhances light reflectors on the skin for that supernova glow. Our Illumino Anti-Aging Brightening Mask can also be incorporated for an instant skin boost and makes the perfect base for make-up to follow.
###### A celeb wakes up with a big blemish the morning of the red carpet - what do you do? A blemish the day of an event would call for a light cortisone injection. I'd also suggest our gentle Balance Purifying Cleanser to eliminate surface impurities, followed by the Colbert MD Intensify Facial Discs, which are soaked in pineapple enzymes to naturally exfoliate and brighten. Plus, the discs also contain anti-inflammatory ingredients that will reduce redness and prevent scars. ###### Can you over-exfoliate or over-moisturise your skin? Yes, over-cleansing and over-moisturising are common mistakes. Harshly scrubbing and washing your face robs it of the natural oils needed to stay healthy and vibrant. Using too many products at once can cause irritation or clog your pores. I always say to listen to what your skin is telling you. ###### What are your top tips for looking after skin in the summer? Water, water and more water. Hydration is key to supple, youthful skin. Clean, healthy food is also a must - we definitely are what we eat. My book, _The High School Reunion Diet_, talks about the relationship between food and skin, and how to find the perfect balance for a healthy glow. Also, wearing a minimum of SPF 30 is a must, especially during the summer. On super hot days use a light moisturiser to slow down water loss from the skin - I suggest my Nutrify and Protect Day Lotion. ###### If we were to invest in one product from the range, what should it be? Illumino Face Oil is the one that started the "oil rush" of the last few years. As a dermatologist, I recognised that oils are essential for beautiful skin and a must for those over the age of 35 to keep skin nourished, plump and radiant.
