Five of the best beds in London

Whether you are looking for a romantic spot for Valentine's Day, a glamorous location to lay your head during London Fashion Week or simply the best place to get a good night's sleep, we asked popular lifestyle photographer Zoe Timmers, aka @Zobolondon, to lie down, get in and even jump on the beds in the capital's finest hotels. Here are her favourites.

1. The Zetter Townhouse

You can imagine penning your Thackery-esque masterpiece from beneath the sheets of the Zetter Townhouse hotel in Clerkenwell. The beautiful Georgian building, which is just 21 steps from its older sister the Zetter hotel, is filled with eclectic and characterful charm.

If the weather is on your side, guests can hire free Brompton bikes and take in nearby St Paul's cathedral, Exmouth market and the many art galleries around Hoxton Square, so a Sunday afternoon cycle ride following their full English breakfast could complete the perfect weekend. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, you can cosy up with dessert and cocktails for two and then retire to bed as part of their special Valentine’s package.

And watch out for The Zetter Townhouse, Marylebone, opening on Seymour Street this spring. 020 7324 4567

2. The Corinthia Hotel

Climb under the covers in your queen sized bed with a cup of tea at the stately but fabulous Corinthia Hotel. A relatively new addition to London, it already feels as assured and established as a grande dame of the capital. After your nap you can dip in the black marble pool, destress with an Espa massage and, when you are feeling thoroughly rested, feast in the Massimo bar or enjoy afternoon tea in the Lobby Lounge beneath the lavish chandelier. You can also take a short walk to Trafalgar Square, Westminster and the river, which are all on your doorstep.

For Valentine's Day, the hotel has invited Emma Bache, a graphologist, to analyse a small sample of you and your partner’s handwriting, to discover your compatibility. 020 7930 8181

3. Claridge's Hotel

Is jumping on the bed not standard practice upon arrival at Claridge's Diane Von Furstenberg-designed Grand Piano suite? We like to think that every one of the Mayfair hotel's guests, including most recently Madonna, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, did exactly that. It's just the effect Claridge's has. All of that old-Hollywood poise and celeb-spotting in the impeccable Art Deco interior makes you want to jump up and down in delight.

If you are planning to visit over the Valentine's weekend, the hotel has perfected every detail, from flowers, champagne and macaroons on your arrival, to monogrammed bathrobes for your departure. 020 7629 8860

4. The Dorchester Hotel

There is a three-to-one staff ratio for every bed at the Dorchester hotel. So every guest who reclines beneath one of their opulent four-poster drapes feels like the celebrity/world leader/royalty that they welcome each week.

If you can stop pretending you are a princess in your own fairytale and peel yourself from under the 300-thread-count sheets, their famous grill, which reopened after its third renovation since 1931, is a must see. Adding a contemporary twist to the timeless setting, it boasts an impressive hand-blown Murano glass chandelier and pivoting wall panels to transform the restaurant from day to night.

This Valentine's Day you can say ‘I love you’ in luxury with a bottle of champagne on arrival. 020 7629 8888

5. Charlotte Street Hotel

Aside from beautiful textures and finishes chosen by interior designer Kit Kemp, she claims never to use a fabric that she couldn't sit on in the nude. We could happily test that theory in all of the rooms of the contemporary and vibrant Charlotte Street hotel in the heart of Soho.

Shut the door after your day and cosy up on the soft, plump pillows. If you fancy a movie, you can book the private cinema - or enjoy their film club which includes a three-course meal in the Oscar restaurant. For Valentines Day, they are holding a screening of Casablanca, so this year’s date is completely taken care of. 020 7806 2000
