How to be the new haute hippie

As festival fever reaches its peak at Glastonbury this weekend, how can you translate your perfect field wardrobe to every day? With attendees spending upwards of £400 on everything from passes to parking, we pick pieces that will go from the mud to marvellous once you're back in the real world.

1. Fringing

As model of the moment and member of the coolest girl gang, Gigi Hadid turned heads at Coachella in her stylish fringed sleeveless jacket. Seen on the catwalks of Celine, Gucci and Proenza Schouler, suede and leather fringing is style savvy on and off the festival field. However, if you're worried that swinging strands might look more cowgirl than cool girl once you're back in the real world, why not dip into the trend with accessories such as this suede, fringed bag.

2. Off-the-shoulder top

It girl Kendall Jenner sparked a stampede when she was pictured floating around like the perfect boho princess in her off-the-shoulder top at Coachella. Shoulders are flattering on most women and it's very on-trend to expose some clavicle right now. For every day, team with high-waisted flares or wear with a pencil skirt for a casual yet cool look.

3. Gladiator sandals

For a masterclass in ageless festival style, look no further than actress Diane Kruger who teamed knee-high gladiator sandals with animal print to striking effect. This season gladiators are a festival staple. They come in different lengths so if full shin lacing seems daunting, ease yourself into the trend with a more manageable ankle length pair. Eternally stylish, they'll go far in your summer wardrobe.

4. The little white dress

While a white dress might not seem like the most logical choice for the muddy or dusty fields (depending on the weather) traditionally associated with festivals, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's ethereal Chloe dress is making us think twice. Whether it’s for a picnic or thrown over your bikini at the beach, a LWD is the ultimate in easy summer dressing.

5. Sunglasses

Festival style is often all about the accessories. Kate Bosworth's simple dress and gorgeous embellished jacket is accessorised to perfection. Note the small cross-body bag just big enough to hold her essentials, including a great pair of sunglasses to shield her eyes from the bright Californian sunshine. Aviators are the style to sport and this folding pair from Persol are a twist on the classic and will take up the minimum amount of space once the sun goes down.

6.  Jewellery

An arm party of friendship bracelets is one of the best bits of dressing for a festival as Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio shows here. But don't let your wrists have all the fun, as well as stacking woven or tassle bracelets, layer delicate and ethnic chain necklaces in different lengths too, it's a simple styling trick that everyone can try. And post festival - a smattering of friendship bracelets worn with a masculine watch will bring back all the great memories.
