have recently divorced and have just started a new job. Everyone is talking about the office Christmas party but I have no idea what to wear. I’ve not dressed up in some time and I feel quite lost. I would like a dress that I could wear again and nothing too revealing. I am petite - just 5"2 with a blonde bob.

Karen, 49, Durham

Diane von Furstenberg would be my first choice for a dress for you Karen, especially the Kelsey dress (£345). It is a fantastic straight, tunic shape that is comfortable and versatile enough to wear for the office Christmas party but also roomy enough to enjoy out for dinner and drinks with friends. The length is also ideal for petite ladies and it comes in some wonderful prints so that you will hit just the right note at your party.

While trousers feel safe, dresses are a great way to boost your confidence as the right one will make you feel more feminine and glamorous.

Armani Collezioni has a really clever wrap dress in electric blue, which would make a dramatic choice for any Christmas party (£375). The cross-over neckline is not too low, the draping detail on the tummy is flattering and it is a good length. The blue would look wonderful with your blonde hair but it also comes in a striking fuchsia. I would team it with dramatic earrings, Swarovski has a great selection, rather than a necklace. I really hope you have a great time Karen.
