Ten New Year's Eve beauty tricks

GAB Orient Excess Beauty Visual2

When the clock strikes midnight on New Year's Eve make sure the eyes are on you, not Big Ben. We asked Katy Young, beauty editor of The Telegraph, to compile her ultimate beauty secrets to ensure you start 2015 looking better than ever.

The Big Cover Up

The eyes tell it all, so keep your party-season previous under wraps with this secret magic cream-concealer weapon. Designed as an eye-shadow base (to keep it looking brighter for longer), it also works alone as a brilliant cover up for redness, veins and general late night abuse, and all without any tell-tale sign it’s there at all.

Eye Canvas, £22.50, Laura Mercier (Available in select Fenwick stores).

The Pre-Party Mask

This is an investment sure, but over the last few weeks your skin has given up its light, moisture and lustre in the name of your festive fun.  It’s time to give something back, so reinvest with a mask as hardworking and luxurious as this newcomer from Crème de la Mer. It honestly works in minutes to plump, brighten and transform skin back to its former glory. Remember too, your party make-up is only as good as the skin underneath.

The Intensive Revitalizing Mask, £105, Crème de la Mer (Available in select Fenwick stores).

New Year New Colour Confidence

Step away from the safety net of clear gloss, and go red for New Year’s Eve. Rumour has it sales or red lipstick have doubled this December, so sign up and join the red lipstick army now.

Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl, £18, Nars (Available in select Fenwick stores).

Get yourself in the mood

Don’t underestimate the power of essential oils at a time like this, because if the thought of peeling yourself off the sofa and into the back of the party cab doesn’t appeal, a swipe of this blend full of geranium and ylang ylang may blow away the Christmas cobwebs. After a shower, spend a few moments massaging this reviving blend into the abdomen for the full effect.

Revive Evening Bath & Shower Oil, £33, Aromatherapy Associates (Available in select Fenwick stores).

The Perfume Investment

Every woman should own a Chanel perfume in her lifetime, and it should probably start as you bring in the New Year and by way of Chanel No.5, the classic, sparkling, second-skin, warm scent, or perhaps a bottle of No.22, considered by some to be the sexiest perfume in the world.

Les Exclusifs Chanel No.22 parfum, £155, (Available in select Fenwick stores).

Fake It

When it comes to false lashes, you’ve either nailed it, or you seriously haven’t. For those who fall into the latter category, there is a new generation of full-fat, thickening, lash boosting mascaras including this one from Dior. And do take the mascara right from the root to the tip, while jiggling the wand from side to side as you go for extra lash boosting. A magic wand indeed.

Diorshow Mascara, £24.50, Christian Dior (Available in select Fenwick stores).

The Super Sexy Feline Eye

Trust the queen of the cat flick, founder of her eponymous beauty brand make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury, to get her eyeliners just right; easy to use, soft enough to leave good colour behind, and brilliantly long-lasting so they see us right through to midnight. Simply, and softly, sweep colour along your lash line – as close to lashes as you can – and pull the line up and out ever so slightly when you get the outer corner. FYI, smudges are all the rage, so perfection isn’t crucial here.

Iconic Liquid Eye Pencil, £19, Charlotte Tilbury (Available in select Fenwick stores).

Have a Do

Any party girl will tell you that getting ready is half the fun, especially if you spend it at Geilly Green watching your party blow-dry take shape. Treat it well (with a light dusting of hairspray and some dry-shampoo the morning after) and it will live way beyond any party too.

Book your appointment at Fenwick Bond Street.

The Easiest Eye-Shadow

If like us, you’re a little afraid of the smoky eye, look no further than this pot of wonder from Bobbi Brown.  Simply use finger tips to press into the lids and smudge and blend, without having to worry about mixing, contouring or layering anything else over the top. This wonderful bronze colour also comes with all the sophistication that says you know exactly what you’re doing.

Long-Wear Gel Sparkle in Sunlit Bronze, £20, Bobbi Brown (Available in select Fenwick stores).

Victoria Beckham Nails It

There are two party shades to wear on your nails this year – pillar box red or a natural shade. And doesn’t Victoria Beckham just know it with her two new colours created for Nails Inc.  You won’t actually need to invest in another colour all year long.

Victoria, Victoria Beckham x Nails Inc, £25, (Available at nails.com, and select Fenwick stores from February).
