The Telegraph Editors' Christmas Gift Guide: Victoria Hall

Next up in our Telegraph Christmas Gift Guide series, we’ve asked The Telegraph’s Acting Beauty Director, Victoria Hall, to share her favourite Christmas breakfast, family traditions and what products have made it onto her shopping lists this year…

My sister, my mum and I all have birthdays in November and December, so as a family we don’t start thinking about Christmas until mid December when the decorations go up. Come 14th of December, the decorations are up and the festivities start. Admittedly, with just 10 shopping days, it’s always a bit of a mad rush to buy something for everyone, including my grandma’s beloved miniature schnauzer.

For as long as I can remember, Christmas has always meant family time. Admittedly this means it’s usually focused around food, too, and we spend the three days decamping to different houses and overindulging in all the great treats on offer.

Christmas Day itself kicks off with a breakfast of smoked salmon and eggs with bucks fizz while we open our stockings. We might all be grown-ups now, but my mum continues the tradition and my stocking is usually stuffed with beauty essentials, including nail polish remover wipes, cotton wool pads and Q-tips. But our proper “under the tree” gifts are left until after lunch – and we always try to outdo each other with thoughtfulness. This year, I think I might have nailed it...

There are few candles that can create a festive ambience quite like Jo Malone London’s candles and this season’s miniature size are perfect for gifting. My flatmate likes to switch up the scents depending on her mood, so she will love this set.

Jo Malone London Christmas Miniatures Candle Collection, £66; Available at Fenwick Bond Street, Brent Cross, Canterbury, Colchester, Kingston, Newcastle, Tunbridge Wells

It’s become a tradition that every Christmas I buy my grandad some nice socks, but this year I want to change it up and give him something that he would never buy for himself. What could be better than a beautiful merino wool scarf?

Kenzo Merino Wool Scarf, £130; Available at Fenwick Newcastle

I find my brother-in-law the trickiest person to buy for as he has everything he needs. This luxury travel guide is perfect though, as both he and my sister are globetrotters, and these books offer unusual, under-the-radar restaurants and hotels that you would never find otherwise.

Louis Vuitton City Guides, £29; Available at Fenwick Bond Street

Palettes are a great option for gifting as they offer variety in terms of colour. My sister will love everything from the chic packaging to the feather-light texture of the formulas and flattering colours of this palette.

Tom Ford Soleil Eye and Cheek Palette, £98; Available at Fenwick Brent Cross, Newcastle, Kingston, Tunbridge Wells

I love jewellery, especially rings, and have wanted one or two of these gorgeous Rachel Jackson initial rings for months. I’ve put them on my Christmas wish list, so fingers crossed...

Rachel Jackson Initial Rings, £35; Available at Fenwick Bond Street, Colchester

When it comes to Instagram and Snapchat, my best friend is obsessed – and she loves taking selfies. I know for a fact she has wanted one of these phone cases [that lights up your selfies and charges your phone] for ages, so this gift ticks both the practical and thoughtful boxes.

Snaplight Selfie Case, £49; Available at Fenwick Bond Street

Since I can remember, my mum has been obsessed with looking after her hands. These chic Ralph Lauren gloves are perfect for protecting them against the elements all through the winter.

Ralph Lauren Gloves, £45; Available at Fenwick Brent Cross, Colchester, Kingston

It might not be a miniature schnauzer to match her real dog, but my grandma will adore this cushion. She loves Voyage Maison cushions and this addition will no doubt take pride of place in her lounge.

Voyage Maison Dog cushion, £42; Available at Colchester, Leicester
