We talk makeup with Beauty Creative Director of Carolina Herrera

Uptown style extends beyond your wardrobe with Carolina Herrera Beauty. Vivid, bold, confident, it is a pure celebration of self-expression.

“Traditionally, makeup is something that you keep out of sight,” says Beauty Creative Director Carolina A. Herrera. “Whether on your bathroom shelf or in your vanity pouch. But it’s such a personal form of expression, why shouldn’t you wear it, literally?”

Available in Fenwick stores and online (we suggest you check out the Fenwick Newcastle counter) the collection includes a strong lipstick line in various finishes as well as dreamy blushers and our buyers favourite - Smudgeproof Fabulous Eyes Mascara that lifts the lashes while nourishing them with lash-conditioning castor oil.

Housed in eye-catching packaging which you can enhance further with detachable tassels and charms, perfect for clipping onto a bag or wearing as a statement accessory.

When makeup looks this good, why would ever hide it away at the bottom of your handbag? Carolina A. Herrera talks us through her vision for the addictive collection of wearable makeup and shares her ultimate beauty tip.

What is your definition of beauty?

Beauty is so subjective, but I think it’s whatever makes you feel like the best version of yourself. I think it’s really that extra something that makes each individual unique in their own special way.

Talk us through the range and design.

The collection was designed to blur the lines between jewellery and makeup, but the formulas had to be as beautiful and high quality as the packaging. We started with lipsticks and powders and have been expanding the product range ever since to answer to the modern woman’s needs. Many of the products are multitaskers too and almost all are refillable, meaning less really is more. Today the range offers everything from lip and complexion products to mascaras, eyeshadows, blushers, and more.

What do you think sets Herrera Beauty apart from the rest?

The fact that our products double up as fabulous fashion accessories. Many of the prints and colours we use, such as the iconic polka dot or pink and red colour combo, are inspired by the House of Herrera’s fashion archives, so there’s a really strong link there. Our formulas are also best in class when it comes to technology and innovation.

How would you define the Herrera Beauty look?

Different occasions call for different looks, but overall I would describe it as polished yet effortless. It’s a very minimalist, New York approach — luminous, healthy skin and a pop of colour, either on the lips or the cheeks.

For anyone new to the collection, where should they start?

You can’t go wrong with a signature lipstick! Our refillable Fabulous Kiss formulas come in four beautiful finishes — sheer, satin, matte and blur matte — and a huge range of shades, so there’s really something for everyone. Or if you’re not big on colour, the Good Girl Mini Tints, which are lip balms with a hint of tint, are a must-have purse essential.

What is your signature beauty look?

I take after my mother, meaning I’m very partial to a bold red lip! I usually go for our signature red, Carolina 310 in the satin finish and opt for a bronzed, sun-kissed complexion using our Fabulous Skin powders. I keep it light on the eyes with just a slick of Fabulous Eyes mascara in the smudge-proof finish, which I love for its wear and lash-conditioning properties.

Best beauty advice you’ve ever received?

Always wash your face before going to bed! No matter how late it is or how tired you are. That and a pop of colour goes a long long way… again, my go-to for an instant pick-me-up is our signature Carolina Red 310 in the satin shade. It delivers full coverage pigment in just a single swipe and is infused with hydrating ingredients to nourish.

What is your ultimate beauty tip you’d like to share?

You can transform your look using just one or two products and your fingertips. I love our Herrera Beauty blushes for their melt-on-the-skin textures. I usually apply it to my lips, then dab a bit onto the apples of my cheeks for a natural flush of colour. That and a slick of Fabulous Eyes Mascara and I’m good to go!
