Keeping the kids entertained at home is a challenge. All that excess energy has to go somewhere… so, we’ve turned to the parents of Fenwick to find out the ways they’re keeping little ones occupied. With fun and educational activities, baking and more, kids will be kept amused, offering us a little respite.
Balancing home life, home-schooling and working from home can feel like misson impossible. We've caught up with some our parents of Fenwick to see how they're keeping their little ones entertained at the moment. **Sometimes it’s the simpler things…** We’ve all been there, buying them the latest [toy or gadget](https://www.fenwick.co.uk/kids/toys), only to watch in awe as they go straight for the cardboard box it was packaged in… as Mark Irving, Head of Digital Marketing knows all too well. "Entertaining the kids - you can get all the games out, buy new [outdoor toys](https://www.fenwick.co.uk/kids/toys/scooters-and-outdoor-toys) but in the end, just a hose can be all it takes to entertain them!" So, why not get a little messy (and them outside) and turn your garden into their own mini waterpark! The clean up is worth it for the amount of fun they’ll have.

Encourage their imagination

Tania Littlehales, Interim Head of Customer, PR and Communications understands the challenge of keeping two lively boys occupied whilst working from home and has been keeping the kids busy by getting creative.

“We’re planning to get as creative as we can with Lego and building sets. We have also been setting a daily challenge to create something just using their imagination (it could be creating a futuristic house, an enchanted forest or a crazy car). I’ll also be getting them involved with cooking and baking – I often find they are more excited to eat the food they have made themselves.”

Nostalgic games

Never underestimate the beauty of classics like boardgames and puzzles. Tania also recommends dusting off these old family favourites as a way of keeping your kids amused.

“Board games are popular in our house too, especially Junior Monopoly and Junior Cluedo. Plus, card games such as Uno and Dobble – especially the Harry Potter themed one.”

There’s a reason why they have outlived even the techiest of games – the entertainment factor is such that the whole family can enjoy! Plus, being stuck inside is the perfect opportunity to partake in a little family time.

Learn and play

Now school is officially out, we’re finding ourselves taking on two roles: teacher and parent. Nikki Willsher, Head of Digital Development has found the formula that’ll ensure both fun and learning in equal measure.

"To get my six year old’s math braincells flowing, I’ve opened a 'Mummy’s lunch shop', whereby I price the individual items of their lunch, give them money on the way in and then they ‘buy’ their lunch before working out how much change I owe them. It’s perhaps been a little too popular, though - I’ve had to do it every day, regardless of whether there’s maths work to do or not!"
