The bluebellgray Story

Fi Douglas, a graduate of the prestigious Glasgow School of Art, set up bluebellgray in 2009 with a clear vision and style in mind; her love of colour and all things floral combined with a desire to create unique painterly pieces. These vibrant, oversized watercolours have become a brand signature and sit harmoniously alongside abstract pieces born from Fi’s natural painting process.

Each design is painted by hand in the Glasgow studio before being printed onto natural cottons and linens using state of the art printing technology; every brushstroke and colour is captured, enhancing the feel of the hand-painted design.

Fi says, "Spring is the time to really embrace your instincts and go wild with full on florals and colour. Big bright blooms, like Bluebell Woods, scream spring and really keep the new season feeling going. I always think bluebells are so optimistic, they’re the first blooms we see in Scotland as spring begins to creep in and their pretty blue hue is so unmistakable. Growing up in the Scottish Highlands, my parents’ garden backed onto a wood and by mid April there would be this carpet of delicately scented bluebells covering the floor. For me, being able to bring that feeling into the bedroom just evokes the most wonderful, positive atmosphere, a sign that brighter days are on the horizon.

When I think about decorating the bedroom I always try to embrace the saying ‘decorate fearlessly’ - it’s a sanctuary, your own private space where you can really afford to go wild and follow your design dreams whether that be with print or colour or luxe layers. Be brave."
