TV Troubleshooting

How to check model and serial number:
When booking a repair, Fenwick will need the model and serial number in full. You can access this via the label on the back of the TV/ Soundbar or Blu ray player. If this is not easy to access, you can also get the information via the TV menu:
Samsung – press settings, select support, about this TV.
Sony – press home, select settings, TV, about, device name, system information.
LG – press home, select settings, all settings, customer support.

How to retune TV:
After the initial setup of the TV, occasionally the TV will need to be retuned to update the channel list. Retuning the following TVs:
LG – press home, select settings, all settings, channel tuning, auto tuning.
Sony – press home, select settings, channel setup, digital setup, digital tuning, auto tuning.
Samsung – press menu/settings, select broadcasting, auto tuning.

To enjoy smart features on your TV, you will need to connect the TV to the internet. If conveniently located an ethernet cable from your router direct to the TV is ideal, but you can also connect to the router via wi-fi if within a reasonable range to the TV. Press home, settings, select network, connect to wi-fi and enter your network password from the label on the back of your service providers router.

To watch external devices like 4K/ 3D Blu ray, games console or sky a lot of the most recent TVs automatically detect when the devices are powered on, and are sometimes integrated on the home screen, or you can change manually. How to change AV inputs:
Press input/ source button and select the correct source on screen.

TV turning off on its own:
All TVs now have a built in eco mode which will power the set off if there is no signal or activity. You can adjust the eco mode usually from 2 to 8 hours depending on your preference, or turn it of altogether in the TV menu:
Home/ settings / eco or power and adjust from there.

4K TV’s will upscale SD or HD content to improve the picture, but to get the best quality possible on your set we would recommend watching content with HDR or Dolbyvision support which gives better colour, contrast between light and dark colours and improved depth. Apps such as Disney+, Netflix, Apple TV, and Amazon support this, as do 4K Blu Ray players and some game consoles.

How to update software:
TVs are generally set to auto update software upon first installation, but should you need to manually update you can do so via the TV menu:
LG – press home, select settings, all settings, others, software update.
Sony non android sets – press home, select settings, customer support, product support, software update.
Sony android sets – press home, select help, apps, help, system software update.
Samsung – press menu/settings. Select support, software update

If your TV is not connected to the internet you can download the software from the manufacturer’s website support section onto a USB stick on your computer - please contact us or the manufacturer if you are unsure on how to do so.

Sound settings:
Sound settings in the TV’s inbuilt speakers can be adjusted to different presets within the TV menu sound settings. If you prefer more powerful sound, current soundbars will link to your TV with HDMI or optical lead. HDMI can also support Atmos sound for content that supports it such as some streaming services and Blu Ray discs – Atmos gives a more immersive sound quality than traditional 5.1 or 7.1 systems. This can be produced with a standalone Atmos soundbar with upward firing speakers or a bar with additional rear speakers.
