The racing season is back and as Royal Ascot’s Official Millinery Sponsor, we couldn’t be more delighted.
There is no finer racing occasion than Royal Ascot taking place between Tuesday 14th to Saturday 18th June 2022, and it all starts with discovering the perfect hat. We are proud to have one of the best edits of contemporary and classic hat milliners, and this year we have collaborated with 12 exceptional talents for our seventh Royal Ascot Millinery Collective.
The designers set out to create a spectacular piece that invoked memories of dream-like couture pieces of a bygone era heralding a return to the British Summer season of occasions in what is Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year. The 2022 Collective features designs by milliners including Philip Treacy OBE, Stephen Jones OBE, Edwina Ibbotson, Vivien Sheriff, John Boyd, Sarah Cant, Victoria Grant, Justine Bradley-Hill, William Chambers, Lisa Tan, Jessica Collins and Maggie Mowbray. The 12 looks comprise classic Royal Enclosure styles alongside ideas for dressing for the Queen Anne Enclosure and Village Enclosure where the Dress Code varies, as well as inspiration for the Windsor Enclosure where no formal Dress Code applies but racegoers are encouraged to dress for a formal occasion. With exquisite hats to wear to the races and beyond, Royal Ascot Millinery Collective will be available to shop exclusively at Fenwick of Bond Street from Thursday 5th of May. ###### **John Boyd - Giant Silk Rose in a Lilac Pink Ombre**
“Our giant rose hat is handmade with dip-dyed pink ombré silk petals reminiscent of My Fair Lady. It is a bold and joyous piece created with 2022 in mind and celebrating the recommencing of many hat-wearing events.”
###### **Philip Treacy - Handblocked Oyster in Titan with Large Rosettes in a Yellow Colour**
“Royal Ascot is the ultimate moment of expression of our craft. It is the reason we exist and survive. It’s also our greatest source of inspiration. Today hats are worn for ultimate moments in people's lives, and Royal Ascot is one of these moments.”
###### **Stephen Jones OBE – “Roquebrune”**
“A single veil is uniquely flattering to your face, imagine if you have twenty!”
###### **Edwina Ibbotson - “Wild Galloping Rose”**
“My Wild Galloping rose headpiece was designed as a celebration of femininity and beauty, a Slight Flight of Fancy, where better to express one's self than your hat, especially your Royal Ascot hat. A mix of roses and butterflies fluttering in the breeze on a warm summer's day.”
###### **Lisa Tan - “Jubilant”**
“Jubilant” is a celebration of Her Majesty and her Platinum Jubilee milestone. This spiral-shaped headpiece features seven complete twists to represent the number of decades The Queen has ruled as our monarch and is handcrafted in platinum-coloured sinamay woven with lurex threads for a little extra sparkle. It floats above the head but is grounded by a base large enough to fulfil Royal Enclosure requirements. A special piece for a truly special year.”
###### **Maggie Mowbray Millinery**
"The iconic headband is always my go-to style, but I wanted to create something more editorial while feeling luxurious. The band is reminiscent of the French Hood or Gable Hood but created in the style of the modern halo band. Embroidered with a diamanté lace to reflect the design of the matching veil. I decided to make the designs separate to give flexibility to the design. The veil can be worn as a stand-alone design or worn either in front of the headband or under, or not at all, allowing a multitude of looks.”
###### **Justine Bradley-Hill - Lux Vintage-Inspired Riding Hat**
“Our collective headpiece takes its inspiration from the glorious works of costume designer Walter Plunkett with an additional nod to the 1980s. The Lux riding hats’ sharp angles are draped in hand died silk organza ruffles and ribbons. I think we have created a piece for the modern-day quaintrelle, a piece of head candy for the brave and the bold.”
###### **Victoria Grant - "Royal Topper”**
“Inspired by British Heritage and celebrating time old traditions, I have created a specially tailored ‘Ladies Top Hat’ in symbolic Royal Purple, with feather plumage reminiscent of ceremonial dress and topped off with a crown jewel and diamond veil.”
###### **Jessica Collins (Bombini Studio) – Whimsical Woodland Headpiece in Mixed Pastels**
"I am thrilled to introduce Whimsical Fantasy, an eccentric yet beautifully inspired by nature and British woodlands, adorned with delicate blossoms, mushrooms and birds, finished with moss and dewdrops making you a part of nature.”
###### **William Chambers - Super Bouquet”**
"Royal Ascot is all about celebration and fantasy, so I created this super-sized version of our popular floral bouquet hat, with leather orchids and a large silk rose in juicy raspberry tones."
###### **Sarah Cant - “Sylvabelle”**
“‘Sylvabelle’ is an extension of my SS22 collection, ‘Riviera’, inspired by the colours and textures of the Côte d’Azur, especially as it is portrayed in mid-century holiday adverts. The dramatic headpiece of ombré tulle and two-tone sinamay takes its name from the Plage de Sylvabelle, where the green land meets the Azur Sea, and the sun fringes everything in gold.”
###### **Vivien Sheriff - “Here Comes the Sun”**
“The 9-carat gold leaf on a finely hand-woven base, an array of delicately burnished feathers in silver, platinum and gold; a truly spectacular Platinum Millinery Salut!”
