Fenwick Talks Journaling with... Elizabeth Uviebinené, founder of journaling app Storia

Elizabeth Uviebinené is the founder of Storia, a journaling app that bridges the gap between individual introspection and the human need for community.

"I’m on a mission to change how we feel about journaling. People feel like they should journal but struggle to maintain a habit; some even find it a chore. By infusing playfulness, delight, and a human approach into the journaling experience, I’ve designed Storia to feel less like a chore and more like a journey of self-discovery, progress and belonging" she explains.

Not only this, she is an award-winning author of five books including the bestseller Slay In Your Lane, and a Life Skills Columnist at Grazia. She has been awarded as Leading Woman in Europe by Ad Age, Marie Claire Future Shaper, and the Groucho Maverick award for being a culturally progressive innovator.

At Fenwick, we are stepping into the New Year with a fresh perspective. This is a time for everybody to set their intentions, gently and kindly shift their mindset and welcome moments of optimism. Elizabeth tells us she's in her "feel-the-fear and do-it-anyway era. Life is too short, try new things and have fun."

How did you shape the concept for Storia?

By flowing my curiosity and wondering what would happen if I created an experience that empowered people to explore who they are as individuals while making meaningful connections over shared ideas, hopes, and aspirations rather than what we look like.

I read scientific studies on the power of journaling and human connection, interviewed people and took small steps every day to make the idea a reality. Early on, I knew I didn’t just want to build an app but craft a new way to connect, express, and define ourselves in this ever-changing and evolving digital age.

What impact has journaling had on you?

Journaling has been transformative; I’ve been doing it as a teen in a dairy. I simply wanted an outlet to explore my emotions and work through difficult experiences. But over the years, it has empowered me to make more intentional choices and pursue the things that truly matter to me. Most importantly, it has reminded me that I am the author of my own story and have the power to create my own world.

How does the app address the modern-day challenges of a busy mind?

Many external things seek to tell us who we are, what we should be, and how we should define success. It is easy to lose sight of what we want from life. I believe our inner voice is the engine room of our lives and requires nurturing. Storia helps you separate the signal from the noise. We’ve created a calm and nourishing space where people and their ideas can grow.

What fresh perspective does the app offer?

That we shouldn’t rely on what the world tells us is possible. We are the story we tell ourselves, so create the world you want.

We are new to journalling and the app - what are our first steps?

I suggest trying the Daily Storia, one curated, thought-provoking prompt each day that allows members to reflect and be intentional. Unlike many other journaling apps that may overwhelm users with prompts they’ll probably never get around to doing, the Daily Storia is designed to help people gain a deeper understanding of themselves over time. It's a gentle nudge towards self-awareness and personal growth.

Talk us through the impact it has had?

Many of our members love starting the day with the Daily Storia and say it has helped them cultivate a more positive, creative and grateful mindset. It’s become a manageable and rewarding daily practice for people new to journaling or seasoned journalers looking for inspiration.

What fresh perspective are you applying to your personal wellbeing?

Spending long days behind a laptop wasn’t healthy for me the last year, so this year - I’m being much more intentional about moving my body. I’ve started going for long walks and doing pilates as well. The mind, the body and the soul need to all work together.
