The great English racing season is almost upon us and each event promises to show the best of British competition and sportsmanship. And with their famous dress codes, you can rest assured that they will also display the height of sartorial elegance. Here, our guide on what to wear to the races this summer will ensure you have a winning look of your own.
From [Royal Ascot](https://www.ascot.co.uk/) (beginning 19th June) to [Northumberland Plate Day at Newcastle Racecourse](https://www.newcastle-racecourse.co.uk/whats-on/30-june-2018) (30th June) and [Henley Royal Regatta](https://www.hrr.co.uk/) (beginning 4th July), your summer wardrobe will be put through its paces this racing season. The formality of the dress code is tailored to the enclosure you visit – for example, at Royal Ascot, the Royal Enclosure calls for the ultimate in formal dressing, while the Windsor Enclosure encourages guests to rise to the occasion without strict guidelines.
No matter what event you attend, dress in a style that honors the prestige and sense of occasion. As a rule, no strapless, thin strapped, one-shoulder or Bardot designs can be worn. Skirts must fall below the knee and shorts are not permitted. Sheer fabric cannot be worn and midriffs must be covered.
With that in mind, we’ve curated a selection of outfits that will make you feel great, and still comply with the dress code.
### Enclosure-Ready Ensembles
If there is ever a time to wear a beautiful headpiece, now is the time. While not every enclosure’s dress code calls for a hat to be worn, guests are always encouraged to adorn this style statement. You can opt for a classic design, such as this wide brim Mademoiselle Chapeaux hat in striking scarlet, or perhaps something more contemporary like Awon Golding’s turban.
When it comes to shoes, remember that comfort is as important as style; especially when you’re on your feet all day or jumping for joy with a winning ticket. These [Ted Baker](https://www.fenwick.co.uk/brands/ted-baker) Hallden heels fit the bill perfectly while encapsulating the summer’s floral trend, while the low heel Kixx shoes from [Kurt Geiger](https://www.fenwick.co.uk/brands/kurt-geiger) are always a safe bet.
When it comes to bags, opt for something elegant and small enough so it doesn’t get in the way while you’re making your way through the crowd, but big enough to hold your beauty essentials, like these styles from [Aspinal](https://www.fenwick.co.uk/search/?cgid=aspinal) and [Michael Kors](https://www.fenwick.co.uk/brands/michael-kors).
