Baltic Open Submission 2024 in Partnership with Fenwick
15 March - 1 September
Over 100 North East artists, aged 11 to 83, will exhibit their work at the Gateshead famous art space.

The North East is bursting with incredible visual artists, sculptors, painters and more.

Through our partnership with The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, we are bringing over 100 creatives and visionaries to the Gateshead space to showcase their work to the public from March 16 until 1 September.

A record 1400 artists and makers based in the North East of England submitted artworks to be considered in the hugely successful open call.

“Creativity has always been part of our DNA at Fenwick and supporting talent is a very exciting part of who we are as a brand," says Strategic Partnerships Director, Leo Fenwick.

"The quality of the works submitted for the exhibition has been truly outstanding and highlights some the brightest talent from the North East and the UK art scene today. We are incredibly proud to be part of the showcasing artist's creative journeys," he adds.

Spotlight on the Artists

The exhibiting makers and artists span a wide age range, from fledgling spray paint street artist Terox, aged 11 to an 80-year-old former Chartered architect Paul W. Kelso, inspired by his daughter to apply.

Having previously appeared on BBC’s Best Inventions with his designs, Paul will exhibit a sculpture created in his garage using various hardwoods.

Work by Megan Jepson, an accomplished and award-winning visual creative based in Newcastle upon Tyne will also be on display. Known for her skills in photography, directing and editing, Megan has collaborated with global fashion powerhouses such as Balenciaga Nike, Levi’s and Off White. At Baltic, Megan will present new work from a passion project titled The Showman that documents the travelling fairgrounds loved and known across the UK.

Work from successful applicants can be viewed at Baltic’s expansive Ground Floor gallery space alongside works submitted for inclusion by established contemporary artists. These include the colourful, expressive painting The Exhibitionist by Jim Moir (aka Vic Reeves), a new photographic work by American-born, Newcastle-based photographer Phyllis Christoper and British sculptor Holly Hendry. You can discover the full portfolio of artists at the Baltic here.

Baltic Open Submission 2024 in Partnership with Fenwick will run until September 1.
