Fenwick and Greggs. The talk of the Toon.
When you combine great food, North East spirit and a touch of je ne sais quoi, great things can happen. This December we are excited to partner with a fellow North East powerhouse, Greggs, to treat you to a one-of-a-kind dining experience. Bistro Greggs sees the leading food-on-the-go retailer's famous flavours given the Fenwick treatment courtesy of our chefs, in a setting reminiscent of a French bistro. Open daily, the unique pop-up will offer a fine dining experience, with dishes served under silver cloches by waiters in Bistro Greggs aprons and traditional white shirts and ties.
"Greggs in itself is an everyday treat and the goal was to try and elevate that treat further, verging on the decadent and indulgent with a nod to Christmas'" explains Fenwick's Executive Head Chef, Mark Reid.
"Our main inspiration for the menu was taking the recognisable, classic Greggs products and re-imaging them. Transforming Greggs caramel shortbread into an Eton Mess or replacing a Beef Wellington with the Greggs Steak Bake and accompanying it with truffled dauphinoise potatoes and green beans with almonds."
For breakfast and brunch, highlights include the “Greggs Benedict” – a Greggs Sausage, Bean and Cheese Melt masterfully reimagined by Fenwick chefs with smoked ham, poached Cacklebean eggs and a velvety Hollandaise sauce. A Full English celebrates Greggs’ best-selling Sausage Roll alongside bacon, mushroom, tomato, baked beans and a choice of eggs. The dish also comes as a vegetarian and vegan option.
Bistro Greggs will also serve “High Tea” for two, where you can enjoy a three-tier sharing brunch with Peach Melba, Yum Yum Bites paired with chocolate sauce and banana, alongside a Greggs Croissant, Pain au Chocolat and an iconic Sausage Roll and Sausage, Bean & Cheese Melt.
Our chefs have also put together a selection of sweet treats including a Greggs Yum Yum with caramel sauce and macadamia brittle and “Tea and Cake” which presents a Greggs Christmas cake slice paired with an Earl Grey Créme Brûlée. Best enjoyed with a Pink Jammie Fizz cocktail inspired by Greggs' iconic doughnut of the same name and created by the award-winning Mother Mercy bar - located on the Lower Ground floor.
Great dishes deserve perfect drink pairings. 'We curated a classic wine list chosen to compliment the elevated dining experience," says Restaurant Operations Manager, Amy Byers.
"All wines are conveniently available to purchase from our wine room or online too. We also collaborated with Mother Mercy to develop a 'Pink Jammie Fizz' cocktail - a sparkling cocktail inspired by Greggs iconic 'Pink Jammie' doughnut - raspberry, apple and fresh doughnut flavours all topped with Prosecco. We will also be serving Greggs' Festive Hot Drinks range featuring Mint Hot Chocolates to Salted Caramel Lattes."
Bistro Greggs draws design inspiration from the traditional bistros of Saint-Germain and features white-clothed tables, velvet banquette seating and marble countertops. A colour palette of Greggs instantly-recognisable blue, sage and Fenwick’s signature green are accented with white and brass to nod to each brand’s look and feel. The space takes further cues from Parisian courtyards and gardens with large-potted greenery and custom artwork which is elegantly woven into Fenwick’s festive dressing that runs throughout to complete the aesthetic.
Leo Fenwick, Strategic Partnerships Director, Fenwick, says: “Fenwick and Greggs are two brands at the heart of the local community with a commitment to doing good and we are thrilled to be partnering with a much-loved brand, bringing a unique and delicious twist to the everyday Greggs experience at Fenwick."
